Yesterday was a great day. While visiting with two amazing girls last night for home teaching we discussed Faith, hope, charity, and love, and I had a memory come back to me of my mission. While serving in Colorado I grew to love a scripture found in John 15:13 that reads, “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.”
What a great scripture this is that is available to all the world. No matter our beliefs this scripture gives all men hope and shows to mankind the Love that Jesus Christ and God have for us. Just four verses earlier he tells his Disciples (and us), “As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you.” What great news this is to us.
I know for myself that when I first pondered on these scriptures I came to realize that there are many people that have crossed my paths that have, in a small way, shown me the love that Christ spoke of. We all have a friend in Christ, and He ultimatly gave his life so that we too can return to live with him and our Father. Without Him we all fall short. Yet as we love others the way that he has loved us we too can draw closer to Him and ultimatly draw closer to the Father.
What an amazing thought this was to me. We then tie love and hope together when we realize that Christ and our Father do love us so much that Christ would lay his life down for us and that the Father would allow his Son to do so, thus giving us all hope to a better way. Through this love we gain hope in all things. We feel it in our hearts and we will gain hope and faith as we travel through life.
I encourage all to seek this out for themselves. Your heart will be filled with the love that your Savior and elder brother have for you and you will then know of the Fathers love he has for you and each of His children. I know that without Jesus Christs’ love for us we would be between a rock and a hard place with no escape. Go forth and show your love for your friends, family, associates, etc.
Be of good cheer, little children; for I am in your midst, and I have not forsaken you.
